5 Issues That Can Stop You from Taking a State Vehicle Inspection

Why Visiting the Auto Repair Shop before an Inspection Is Such a Good Idea

The state of Pennsylvania requires all vehicles to pass safety inspections in order to make sure they are safe. The number of inspections depend on the type of vehicle you own. As an auto repair shop, not only do we perform pre-inspection repairs, but we actually perform the inspection ourselves. So,  trusting us guarantees you nothing but honest, affordable, and reliable service. That’s why, we wanted to give you a couple of tips on the things that can go wrong with your car, before a state inspection.

1. The brakes are the most important safety feature of your vehicle. Without them you are bound to have some serious problems. That’s why keeping them safe is essential. The problem is, they can’t be inspected without being disassembled first. It’s very inconvenient for the driver, because they have to visit an auto repair shop, but this is the only way to do it.

2. The tires mustn’t be too worn out before an inspection. The tire tread must be at least 2/32 of an inch deep. The easier way to check the treads is with “Lincoln’s hat”. Put a penny in the tread and if half of the president’s head is covered then you are still good for the inspection.

3. The engine is another thing that must be checked. That can only be done by an auto repair company. It’s definitely not a job for a DIY enthusiast. The only way to know if something is wrong with your engine is if the “check engine” light is flashing. In that case, you won’t be able to pass a state inspection without visiting the auto repair service.

4. The lights are another thing that must be checked before the big day. That mean all lights, including headlights, tail lights, dashboard lights, turn signals, emergency lights, and so on.

5. Windows and windshields are inspected carefully for cracks and notches. Furthermore, there are various restrictions against certain types of tinting, so if your vehicle has a custom tinting, you should definitely check the local restrictions against that.

Other vehicle parts that should get proper maintenance before a State Inspection include steering, suspension, transmission system, body chassis, exhaust system, and so on.
